USAT-E is the USAT for Pre-Engineering students. It has 75 MCQs in 100 minutes: English 20, maths reasoning 25, Physics 10, Chemistry 10 and Maths 10, then 2 essays. With maths reasoning and FSc Maths together, 35 of the 75 MCQs are maths. That is your biggest chance to score.
USAT-E paper pattern
| Section | MCQs |
|---|---|
| Verbal reasoning (English) | 20 |
| Quantitative reasoning (maths) | 25 |
| Physics | 10 |
| Chemistry | 10 |
| Mathematics (FSc) | 10 |
What to revise
Mathematics (10 MCQs)
FSc level algebra, trigonometry, basic calculus and coordinate geometry. This part checks if you remember formulas and methods. Make a formula sheet and read it often.
Physics (10 MCQs)
Motion and force, electricity, waves and basic modern physics. Learn formulas with their units.
Chemistry (10 MCQs)
Atoms, the periodic table, bonds, basic reactions and the pH scale.
What our question bank shows
For the USAT-E subjects, Chemistry is the hardest in our bank, with 17% of questions marked hard. Maths is 12% and Physics only 6%. Physics questions are mostly direct formula and unit questions, so they are quick marks if you have revised.
My advice
- Do maths every day, both reasoning and FSc. It is almost half your paper.
- Do not use a calculator when you practice. HEC does not allow one in the test.
- Spend extra time on Chemistry reactions, because that is where most students lose marks.
- Do not skip English. 20 MCQs is a lot of marks to give away.

Common questions
What is the USAT-E paper pattern?
75 MCQs in 100 minutes: English 20, maths reasoning 25, Physics 10, Chemistry 10 and Mathematics 10, then 2 essays in 40 minutes.
How much maths is in USAT-E?
A lot. 25 maths reasoning MCQs plus 10 FSc Maths MCQs, so 35 of 75 MCQs are maths.
Is USAT-E enough for engineering admission?
It depends on the university. Many engineering universities have their own test, like ECAT. Check the admission page of each university you apply to.
