HAT-2 is the HAT category for Management Sciences and Business Education, like MBA, MS Management, Finance or Marketing. It has 100 MCQs: 30 verbal, 40 analytical and 30 quantitative. HAT-2 has the most analytical questions of any category, so puzzles decide your score.
Who should choose HAT-2
- MBA and Executive programs that ask for HAT
- MS or MPhil in Management, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, HRM, Supply Chain
- Business Education programs
If your degree is in economics or accounting, check with your university. Some business programs list HAT-2, others list a different category.
HAT-2 paper pattern
| Section | MCQs |
|---|---|
| Analytical (reasoning) | 40 |
| Verbal (English) | 30 |
| Quantitative (maths) | 30 |
Why analytical matters so much in HAT-2
In our bank of 180 analytical questions, 52% are marked hard. For verbal it is 9% and for maths 15%. So the 40 analytical questions in HAT-2 are both the biggest section and the hardest one. A student who is good at puzzles can gain 10 or more marks over others here.
The question types are:
- Ranking (who is taller, who came first)
- Seating in a row or circle
- Number and letter series
- Logic arguments: valid or invalid, strengthen or weaken
- Clock and calendar questions
I explain each type with worked examples in our HAT analytical reasoning guide.
A simple plan for HAT-2
- Day 1: do 1 full HAT-2 paper with a timer.
- Every day: 15 analytical puzzles, drawn on paper.
- Every day: 20 new words. Business students often skip English, and 30 verbal MCQs is a lot of marks.
- 3 times a week: 15 maths questions on percentages, profit and loss, and ratios. These topics feel familiar to business students.
- Last 2 weeks: a full paper every 2 days.
What score to aim for
HEC policy asks for 50% for MS and MPhil. For a good business school and scholarships, aim for 60 or more. See our HAT passing marks guide.
